As parents, given our busy lifestyle, sleep can become something that we sorely lack. Still, we keep going to ensure that our family is healthy, happy, and prepared for their day. And, with this being said, we do our best to ensure that our children get the sleep they need because, if they don’t,psychological distress, illness, and a wide range of other health problems could arise, affecting their growth and learning.

Keeping that in mind, we are going to take a look at some reasons why proper sleep is essential for young children:

Healthier Heart-our heart needs rest and, during a good night’s sleep, it doesn’thave to work as hard and it can get the rest it needs. When your child is sleeping, their blood pressure is naturally lower and various parts of their cardiovascular system get a well-deserved break. For children with hypertension, getting enough sleep is important to managing their condition.

Stronger Immune System-young childrenwho getthe proper amount of sleep have stronger immune systems that can defeat foreign invaders. Improved duration and quality of sleep can help to eradicate microorganisms more quickly. It is less likely for them to get sick.Proper rest gradually improves their immune system, decreasing the duration and severity of illnesses caused by viruses which can keep them healthier.

Sharper Cognitive Functions-a lack of sleep can cause young children to have problems remembering details and learning new things. Analytic capabilities could degrade if they are tired. It’s not possible to do even the simplest things if they have sleep deprivation.

Reduced Stress- with quality sleep, your child will have more positive emotions when they are awake and any negative emotions will be much more manageable. Theywill feel less irritated and it’s far less likely for them to have mood disorders. Obviously, sleep isn’t a cure-all remedy for chronic stress and depression, but it’s an essential component for good psychological health.

Managed Body Weight-if your child is well-rested, it is more likely that they will be more physicallyactive during the day. Lethargy and a lack of endurance can cause children to move less and they won’t burn as many calories.
