Multi-Car Accident: Fault, Causes & Your Legal Rights – Forbes AdvisorEvery day, millions of cars travel on the roads and highways. Unfortunately, car wrecks are an all-too-common occurrence—in the US alone, there were 806 fatal crashes in 2019 involving 889 vehicles. That’s a staggering number, and it’s clear that something needs to be done. But what? 1800 car wreck Read on to learn more about how we can reduce the risk of car wrecks and make our roads safer for everyone.

The Causes of Car Wrecks

There are countless factors that contribute to car crashes, but some of the most common causes include:

  • Speeding – Speed limits exist to keep drivers safe by helping them maintain control over their vehicles. When people drive too fast or fail to adjust their speed in response to changing conditions (e.g., inclement weather), they increase their risk of getting into a crash.

  • Distracted Driving – Distracted driving includes any activity that takes your attention off the road ahead of you and prevents you from reacting quickly if needed. This includes texting, talking on the phone, eating or drinking while driving, adjusting your GPS system, etc.

  • Driving Under the Influence – Drinking alcohol or taking drugs can impair your judgement and slow your reaction time—two things you need to operate a vehicle safely. Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can have an adverse effect on your driving abilities.

  • Poor Vehicle Maintenance – Faulty brakes, worn tires, broken headlights—all of these things can contribute to car wrecks. It’s important to make sure your vehicle is properly maintained at all times so that it functions correctly when you need it most.

  • Fatigue – Driving while tired is dangerous because it impairs your judgment and slows down your reaction time just like alcohol does. To stay safe behind the wheel, always get enough rest before you hit the road (at least 7-8 hours).

What Can We Do?

The good news is that there are steps we can take as individuals and as a society to reduce the risk of car wrecks:

  • Educate Drivers – One way we can reduce car accidents is by educating drivers about best practices for staying safe on the roadways (e.g., no texting while driving). Schools should offer driver’s education classes for both new drivers and experienced ones; this will help ensure everyone is aware of safety rules and regulations before they get behind the wheel.

  • Increase Awareness – People need to be aware of potential risks when they get behind the wheel (e.g., drunk driving). Governments should invest more money in public awareness campaigns that remind people about safe driving practices such as not drinking and driving or not speeding excessively.
  • Improve Infrastructure – Governments should also invest in infrastructure improvements such as widening roads and improving visibility at intersections where accidents often occur due to poor sight lines or limited space for multiple cars turning simultaneously onto a single lane road
  • Strict Enforcement – Finally, laws against distracted or impaired driving must be strictly enforced; this means police officers must pull over anyone who appears to be breaking traffic laws such as speeding or running red lights/stop signs so that everyone learns these behaviors are unacceptable     Conclusion: Reducing car wrecks requires both individual effort from each driver as well as collective action from governments across all levels (local, state/provincial, federal). By educating drivers about best practices for staying safe on the roadways; increasing awareness about potential risks associated with reckless behavior; investing in infrastructure improvements; and ensuring strict enforcement against traffic violations; we can begin making progress towards reducing car accident fatalities around America and beyond!
